Mary Beth (Brimlow) Handschumacher is very excited to be in her 8th year as an Instructors Assistant and teacher at AADbK .
MaryBeth started dancing at the age of 7. She started with gymnastics at the YMCA, then took jazz, ballet and clogging for many years. However, in addition to all of these genres of dance Mary Beth began her twirling career at the age of 9 with The Stow Royal Paraders, instructed by Tanya Carmack Huber. Mary Beth competed in the National Baton Twirling Association (NBTA) on the Stow Royal Paraders Twirling Team for 3 years. She had the honor of twirling throughout Costa Del Sol Spain, Gibralter and Africa with the Stow Royal Paraders in 1985 for two weeks at the age of 12.
From there MaryBeth went on to concentrate on her love of individual baton twirling with Vicki & Tawny Broadbent in East Liverpool, Ohio. Mary Beth competed individually on a local, State, Regional, National & International level for over 15 years. While in high school she performed at different events including the University of Akron, Ohio State Basketball games, local events and fairs. MaryBeth took from guest teachers throughout the United States, attended camps and twirling clinics as well. Mary Beth was also selected as one of two Feature Twirlers for the Ohio State Fair Honor Band 1988-89 where she performed for three weeks throughout the Ohio State Fair in the summer.
After high school was the highlight of Mary Beth’s twirling career when she was selected as one of two Feature Twirlers for Michigan State University’s Spartan Marching Band in East Lansing, Michigan from 1991-95. Mary Beth performed one, two and three baton with the Spartan Marching Band in front of 75,000 fans every home game, several Big Ten away games and bowl games & MSU basketball games each year. This was such an honor because it is most twirlers dreams to twirl for a major University.
While in college MaryBeth also competed in the Miss America prelims throughout Ohio and she received several 10’s for her dance-twirl routines.
Mary Beth earned her Bachelors degree in Audiology and Speech Sciences in 1995 from Michigan State University. Mary Beth still goes back and twirls for Alumni Band in the fall in front of the crowd of 75,000. MaryBeth also holds her National Baton Twirling Association judges license. She teaches private lessons, at twirling camps/clinics, judges twirling competitions on a State, Regional and National level, and College tryouts.
Mary Beth has been the Vice President of her family business, Brimlow Benefits Agency, here in Stow for the past 13 years.
Mary Beth resides in Stow with her husband Tyson and two daughters Laney (12) and Lauren (9). Both her daughters Laney & Lauren have been dancing since the age of 3 and are members of the AADbK competition dance teams and keep her very busy. If she has any spare time she loves shopping, gardening and spending time with her friends.
